What this week's weather means for your appliances
Day-to-night temperature swing
This week runs from 48°F overnight to 74°F in the afternoon. A swing that size makes a refrigerator cycle more often, so a dusty condenser coil or a door gasket that no longer seals shows up as warm food far sooner than it would in steady weather.
Steady week — a good time for maintenance
Nothing extreme is forecast. That makes this a good week for the jobs that get skipped: vacuum the refrigerator condenser coil, pull the dryer duct and clear the lint, and run a cleaning cycle through the dishwasher and the washer.
Appliances and the Las Vegas climate
Las Vegas is high desert: triple-digit summer afternoons, single-digit humidity and a sharp drop after sunset.
Summer heat is the hardest thing local appliances face. A refrigerator or freezer kept in an uncooled garage can be asked to hold 0°F while the room around it is well over 100°F, which is outside what a standard unit is rated for — garage-ready models exist for exactly this reason. Indoors, a fridge that cycles non-stop on a 110°F afternoon is usually telling you the condenser coil is dusty or the door gasket no longer seals.
